CLE – Facing the Algorithm: AI Police Reports and Machine-Generated Evidence

January 13, 2026 @ 12:30 pm 1:30 pm

Join Robert Thies, Senior Investigator with the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, for this thought-provoking and practical training on the ever-changing interface of AI tools, evidence, and effective defense strategy. Machines are now helping write the record. This program will begin with AI-assisted police narratives; how they are made, how to spot them when they land on your desk, and how to defend against them today (what to demand, drafts, versions, prompts, logs; how to dissect raw media versus polished text). Then, this program will widen to other machine-generated evidence, and close with a court-facing framework for a single Rule 104(a) reliability hearing consistent with the proposed Rule 707.

This program will be broadly applicable to all SPD attorneys and contractors.

Join us virtually on January 13th from 12:30-1:30 p.m. MT / 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. PT. Upon registering, you will be sent an event invite to add this program to your calendar and the link to attend via Teams will be included.

1.0 CLE credit pending. Register below.
